I have had the same problem with my dog and have tried almost everything that is over the counter with limited results.
I read this on the internet, tried it and it worked. Give your dog a bath using "Dawn" dish detergent, you will see the fleas drop off as soon as you start lathering your dog up. Dawn is a heck of a lot cheaper than "Flea and Tick" shampoo also.
I do re-wash the dog afterward with a dog shampoo that contains "Hydrocortisone", this is a anti- itch shampoo that also helps heal flea bite irritation, skin allergies, rashes, etc...
It is put out by Hartz, available at Wal-Mart, K-mart, etc...
I also vacuum the carpets very regular.
Another little info I was told, if you have a carpet cleaner, add a small amount of bleach to the carpet cleaning solution, the bleach is also supposed to kill fleas that may remain in your carpets. I have tried this also, I have a very deep green color carpeting, the small amount of bleach did not harm or discolor my carpets at all.
Hope this helps.

I use Frontline. You have to use whatever product regularly, not just for a month or two. Vacuum your rugs/carpet well and toss out the bag, plus wash your dog's bedding.

First you have to understand that fleas reproduce in stages, from the first bite, then to egg laying then hatching. The adults may be killed by the medications but the eggs are not, they hatch and the process turns in a vicious circle.

Try this:

LEMONS
"My dog had fleas when she was four months old, and I didn't feel comfortable using flea medication on her because she was too small for store bought medication, and the stuff from the vet was too expensive. I read that there's something about lemons or lemon juice that repells fleas. I cut some lemons into quarters, and covered them with boiling water. I let the water sit overnight, and in the morning poured it into a spray bottle. I sprayed her several times a day with the lemon water, and also put some crushed garlic into her food. The fleas were gone in no time, and since lemons and garlic only cost a couple of dollars, I saved lots of money!"

SALT
We had a really bad outbreak of fleas in our house. My 2 year old kept getting bites all over her body and my husband and I too. I didn't want to use all the toxic powders or even boric acid since she has asthma. I got desperate and bought 10 cans of salt from the store and sprinkled it all over the house (mainly the carpet). Let it sit for 4 days and then vaccumed with a vaccum that has excellent sucction and a HEPA filter. THE FLEAS WERE GONE!!!!!. I guess the salt dehydrates them and kills the eggs as well. IF you live in a humid climate don't leave the salt in the carpet too long as it retains water. Wash all the linens and couch cushions etc....repeat the vaccum every day for 3-4 days to get all the salt out."

Sounds like a nest is in your house so when you kill one colony another hatches and takes it's place. Take your dog to get a flea dip at the vet and bomb your house over and over until they are gone.

No, she cannot just live with fleas. She can become anemic and get tape worm and other various parasites that fleas can carry. Keep in mind that advantage and other spot on treatments may not kill flea eggs and some may not kill fleas on contact. They either make them sterile or slowly poison them. You may still see fleas after the treatments but if you are doing monthly treatments they will eventually die out. Don't use over the counter meds! Your best chance is to get another perscription flea med like frontline or revolution. The flea collar is only going to keep fleas off her head as well, so you may as well trash that. Vacuum your house daily and double bag the vacuum contents and take them straight outside.

Try this site. Take your dog to the vet for a good flea dip and treat your home while he is gone. Buy a flea spray with "EGG STOP" Raid makes one. What I did was vacumm thoroughly. Before I started I wet the vacumm bag slightly with the spray. The key is after you vacumm thoroughly, immediatley throw out the bag. If you don't get the dog dipped at least weigh your dog and ask your vet for some Frontline. Put this on the dog once a month and continue your vacumming and spraying for at least a month. A flea has a short life cycle but they reproduce. I had 2 dogs and 3 cats and managed to eradicate the fleas by doing this. Check out this website also.
