I don't get nervous around pit bulls. I do get nervous around rottweilers. Not because of their breed. but because of the colour they are. I am more nervous and/or afraid of black dogs. I have nothing against the breed.. just the colour. given time i do get over my fear of the dog.

Rottweilers - no, Pit Bulls - yes. Maybe it's because I have relatives with Rottweilers that are very nice dogs.

No I worry about the a**holes that own them. 95% of all pit bulls are owned by people like me who love, train and take care of thier pit bulls. The other 5% are the ones giving us all bad names.

No not in the least. It is usually the owner who creates a problem with any dog. My son has two rottweilers and he loves them. They are the nicest, sweetest pets because they are treated well.

Dogs can feel the fear in a person. I never have fear when I am near a dog and have never been bitten or attacked. I put my hand out first, with my palm up, under their chin, which doesn't scare them.

However, if a dog has been ill treated or has been used as a guard dog, then you will be able to feel their energy. Some of them are on chains for their whole life and any human who was treated the same way would also be angry and vicious.

If I see that that is the case I approach very warily I do not approach them, I talk to them in a calm voice and wait to see what kind of movement it makes. If it still seems angry after talking to it for about five minutes, I back off. Sadly, we have to think of our own safety sometimes, and we have to be sure that we are not walking into the arms of an angry animal.

When a human being mistreats an animal it literally makes me sick. Having "domain" over an animal does not mean utter control, it means "to look after and protect".

Nope, not nervous at all. I have 3 pit bulls and they are wonderful dogs. My grandpa had 2 rotties before he died and they were great dogs as well. My pits are loyal, well behaved, loving and friendly to everyone. They get along great with my cats and are very gentle around my son. My son rides them like a horse and one of them sleeps next to his bed every night.

FIRST OF ALL, not all pitbulls are trained killers....
IT's TRAINING and INBREEDING that makes them behave poorly. Even then, it's not the dogs that are bad, but the OWNERS!
MOST pitbulls are loving and loyal. There is no reason to be afraid. As with ANY dog, if they sense fear they are likely to react in an unfavorable way.
Please dont hold the sins of humans against a whole breed of beautiful animals.
A PITBULL LOVER FOR LIFE!!!!!

First and for most they were not breed this way. We the people raised them this way. There are good and bad dogs in every breed. Pits have just been the most neglected and abused breed out there today. Some day there will be another that you fear and youll look back and realize we are the mosters behind these dogs. If any dog is loose in a ruff neighborhood Im not going to just walk over to it but I would keep my gaurd up no matter what breed it is. Most dogs you see loose are neglected and not trained or have no human contact. I love my pit bull along with other breeds. A few weeks ago a Jack Russel mauled a baby to death while it was sleeping. Your gonna tell me that a person who leaves a 6 week old baby alone sleeping in contact with any animal was responsible. Thats what the problem is behind this breed. You never hear about other dogs attacking and killing because it doesnt fuel the media. Its so sad when I take my dog out and people will let there kids love all over him. Then they ask what kind he is and they grab there kids up like he ripped there face of. Its descrimantion and we are not taking care of the true problems behind these dog. So sad you would judge them! They are just like humans no matter what race we are all still the same. We all have hearts and well all need love and attention. Next time your at your vet ask them what the most aggresive dog is I bet they dont say either one of these dogs.

I get nervous when I see any dog just roaming around. Any dog can attack no matter what breed it is. I have an American Pit bull Terrier and she is the sweetest dog I have ever seen. She's never been even slightly aggressive towards anyone and she's GREAT with kids. I believe there is a BIG misunderstanding when it comes to dogs. If you raise them right and care for them properly you will have a good dog. If they are malnourished or mistreated then you could have a problem.
