kim s asked:

Apparantly she’s asked some others and they said no (most of the people she knows are single and working full time). If I dont take this dog, she will be going to the pound. And honestly, I wont be able to sleep at night wondering if she was euthanized or not.

Heres the thing, I have a 9 month old labrador retriever, I work from my home and financially am very capable, but, I know nothing about this breed. Can anyone give me some information? I’ve heard their similiar to labs personality wise but Ive never owned one.

Thanks
Oh thank you Mimi, you just reminded me that I forgot to add that Id like intelligent responses only.

We have a labrador retriever who was bred from a family of intelligent dogs… yet he never seems to ‘get’ anything! he has a very short attention span. We’ve house trained him and got him to do sit, stay (only for food – typical lab!) paw and other paw but he doesn’t understand lie down or returning to you or anything. he walks ok on the lead but needs a lot of reminding. when he’s off the lead he just bounds over to any dog/person he sees… i had to run after him with a pushchair last week whilst he was chasing a runner! it was so embarrasing! he also jumps up to greet but he’s such a big dog he bowls everyone over. he chews up anything and everything he manages to find… he even ate a loaf of bread the other day (but wont eat his dry food??!)
i know we’ve got some basics which is the most important but where do we go from here? he just doesnt listen!

Peace asked:

I’m a new to the whole aspects of breeding dogs that can be brindle, although, most of my family was raised breeding dogs that were able to be brindle. But I know such dogs, like Labrador Retrievers, you cannot have a chocolate coloured pup, without a chocolate coloured adult. Is this true with dogs that can turn out brindle? Can a reverse brindle Boxer have a brindle pup? All answers are appreciated, thank you!

gsdluvrr planned litter in June! asked:

I have a labrador retriever/english springer spaniel mix. I got her from a family who’s neighbor’s lab jumped the fence and got the mom. So it was an accidental breeding, so please no rude comments about irresponsible breeders, etc. So what do you think about the breeds together?

S-man asked:

Hi guys. Here is the whole problem:

In Labrador retrievers coat color is determined by 2 genes that sort independently:
melanin production (B for black is dominant to b for brown)
melanin deposition (E for deposition is dominant to e for no deposition)
Yellow Labrador retrievers may be homozygous dominant, homozygous recessive, or
heterozygous for pigment production but are homozygous recessive for melanin deposition.
Chocolate Labrador retrievers are homozygous recessive for melanin production but may be
homozygous dominant or heterozygous for melanin deposition.
Black Labrador retrievers may be homozygous dominant or heterozygous for melanin
production and for melanin deposition.
a. Write all possible genotypes for yellow, chocolate, and black Labrador retrievers:
Yellow__________
Chocolate__________
Black____________
b. Male and female chocolate Labrador retrievers were mated and had a litter of 12
puppies. Eight of the puppies were yellow. What were the genotypes of the parents?
Parent genotypes______________
c. How many of the other puppies were chocolate and how many were black? (Please
show your work!)
Chocolate________________
Black________________

I really need help with this problem, because I don’t really know any of this stuff, and only vaguely understand this problem. Thank you guys for helping me with this problem :)

“B” codes for black coats, “b” for brown; but only if the dominant epistasis gene (E) is present too.
What would happen if we cross two dogs: BBEe x BbEe?

APBT Strong asked:

My sister has 3 kids, and 2 Labrador retrievers. 1 male ( Brutus ) And 1 female ( Tisha ). And my sister insist that Labradors are the smartest, strongest, most athletic dogs, and the best swimmers. I was telling her that mastiffs get bigger, and thats when she said that the largest dog that ever lived was a lab that reached 300 pounds!! I thought that English mastiffs were the strongest and heaviest dogs, and Irish wolfhounds the tallest the border collie the smartest and most athletic and the Portuguese water dog the best swimmer and then the greyhound the fastest, am i wrong?
