heartsongrev asked:
I have a minature dachshund that is full blooded but I don’t have papers for the parents or him. How can I get papers?
Based on the owners of the parents, the dog is full blooded. I’ve heard you can get a DNA test done and get papers for him. Probably not AKC papers, but papers none the less. Any ideas?

How do you know the dog is “full blooded” if you don’t know the parents?
If you know the names of the parents, you may be able to check with the AKC to see if they are AKC registered. If the parents aren’t AKC registered, you can’t register the pup.

You can get a ILP slip. This will allow you have your dog to participate in everything except Conformation.
It will not allow you to register any pups if your thinking of mating your dog.
Go to the AKC site and look under this and see whats required for you to do ok!

How do you know it’s purebred?
If you don’t have papers for the parents, you can’t get papers on the puppy!

You can’t. The only way to get AKC registration is for both parents to be AKC registered and the litter your dog was from also needed to be AKC registered. The breeder then would have issued you an individual registration application which you would fill out, send in the required fee and then AKC would send you your dogs registration.
No you can’t get DNA done and get papers…if you are in the US any registry other then AKC, UKC (United Kennel Club) or CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) is not a legit registry. There are many scam registries that will register anything and they are not worth the paper they are printed on.
***an ILP is not a registration it is only a number given to a spay/neutered dog of one of the AKC recognized breeds so it can compete in performance or hunt events.******

Your dog is full blooded? I should hope it’s full of blood or it would be dead. I think you mean purebred.
has the answers to your questions.
You cannot get papers unless the “breeder” registered the litter and both parents are registered with the AKC (full registrations).
So you CANNOT get AKC papers without this.
And other papers from “fake” registries are worthless.
Neuter your pet and enjoy him After he’s neutered you can get an ILP number on him from the AKC so he can compete in obedience or other events.

aparently there are ways to get your dog papers, and it is an ligit way, this is the email sent to me from ACA, in witch my female mini dachshund was born and we still have to send our register number in with her papers, my friend bought an 8 moth old mini dachshund, and unfortunatly the parents were papered, but the people who she purchased him from moved, and she has no way to contact them to find out the breeder the bought him from, the email the ACA sent me is bellow, and if what everyone is saying about any other kind of papers not being worth anything, then i would like to know why the breeders we bought our dog from get very good money for their puppies when they are only ACA registred, if they are registered they have to be reconized, when we breed our ACA with my brother mini dachshund who is a wire hair with a top line blood line, he is papered under 2 different clubs , and neither of them are the one my dog is under, so we can actualy get them reconized by all three clubs, it is definatly worth looking into, and for everyone else, you can take a dog to a vet, and they can tell you if it is a purebred, dogs that are mixed have very noticable differences then a purebred, i hope this is as helpful for you as it was for my friend!
He Jeanette,
Unfortunately without registration papers following the dogs being transferred we will not be able to register them with ACA. We can offer to register them with International Canine Association as that breed but without proof of pedigree (or family tree). The cost to register the adult dogs will be $38.00 each then the litter can be registered for a flat fee of $16.00. If interested in this company let me know your address so I can send you the registration paperwork to complete.
Sincerely,
Joan Fanelli

Look, despite what all these people say, you can have a bllod test ran and it can tell you if it is full blooded and when you resiter your pure bred than you can find the parents . Atleast that is what I have been told and read about.

CKC is just as good. Atleast the dog would be registered.
