Your Rottweiler is too still just a puppy. The introduction should be done in a control environment to ensure the safety of both dogs. And the time lines will vary according to your dogs temperaments and own personalities. Without knowing if your Rottweiler is male or female or if he or she is spayed or neutered. Please understand there are variables to take into consideration. Like how much previous training and socialization has the Rottweiler puppy already had with interacting with other dogs both inside and outside the home. Please remember, it’s important to provide equal attention to both the new puppy and your Rottweiler. This includes one-on-one time, appropriate exercise and play time, and of course lots of love.

First, introduce them around neuteral ground. Second, evaluate the behavior. Rotties are very vocal when playing and their behavior is often mistaken for aggressive behavior. Watch the tail and see if it wags, see if the ears perk up, if the dog jumps forward and retreats, and if the dog seems genuinely interested in the puppy. Also, watch the puppies behavior. Puppies tend to have a clingy personality that many older dogs find tolorable for only short periods of time. Also, if it’s a male dog you will want to have him neutered. Essentially the older dog will guide the puppy and if he wants to be left alone he will communicate this with low soft growls and not sharp ones. Remember to reinforce good behavior by praising the Rottie for good behavior such as sniffing, licking, playing, or bringing toys for the puppy. Remember to give equal attention. Most people with new puppies neglect their older dogs which only creates bad behavior.

You are going to have to slowly and regularly introduce these two. Several times a day, every day a few minutes — completely supervised. Have someone allow the leashed Rottie to sniff the pup and get used to her scent. Vice versa for for the Dane. The main thing is to keep both pets safe and remember that they are animals and their instincts are to protect their own turf from outsiders.
