I trained him as a puppy just the same way as I did my Springer but it didn’t work. He is much better than he used to be but still poohs & pees in the house if he needs to go. He hasn’t learnt to hold it in.

take him out right after he goes in the house. and take out often. i just trained my toy fox terrier this way. he also knows that if he doesnt go then he wont get a treat inside.

YOU HAVE TO REWARD THEM WELL WHEN THEY GO OUT SIDE. YOU ALSO HAVE TO FEED THEM, TIME THEM TO GO OUT SIDE.

My son has a bassett hound and we read a solution on the internet that worked wonders. Take a soft drink can and fill it a quarter way with pennies. Everytime you catch the dog getting ready to mess, shake the can vigorously close to the dog’s head and then lead the dog outside. If the dog has already messed, lead the dog back to the spot and shake the can again.
It takes a couple of weeks before you see improvement, but it works.

You can get a pet training spray at petsmart. have heard it works well. Also you can kennel him when you are not at home or put him outside when you are gone.
