Take a soft drink can and fill it a quarter way with pennies. Everytime you catch the dog getting ready to mess, shake the can vigorously close to the dog's head and then lead the dog outside. If the dog has already messed, lead the dog back to the spot and shake the can again. It takes a couple of weeks before you see improvement, but it works.
