Kada asked:

My male pomeranian was born on April 14th 2008. My question is that is he old enough to be bred?

And what is the typical age a male pomeranian must be to breed with another dog?

No dog should be bred before they’re at least two years old. However, age is not the only thing you need to think about.

Does your dog have excellent bloodlines? Are you going to show him? Are you going to get all proper genetic tests completed, which can’t be done until he’s at least two years of age? Are you going to prove he’s a great example of his breed?

Not every dog is meant to be bred. Most are just great pets. If you’re going to breed him, please be sure you’re doing it to help improve the breed, and not just breeding for reasons like “I want my dog to be a dad”, “I want a puppy to keep”, “I want a puppy just like him”, “My dog is beautiful and should be bred”, etc. Responsible breeders breed for the betterment of the breed.

According to Dog Phycology, any dog may be able to mate between 2 years of age. If your dog takes interest and starts to do sudden things then you may let him mate.
