Please give me tips how to care for a shih tzu breed; would be very helpful if owners of shih tzu’s gave tips and experiences.

    As with any breed have patience. Set up a “potty schedule” (it really does sound ridiculous, but it will help the dog get trained faster). Take the dog out every few hours, and right after they eat (which should also be on a schedule) – and watch them. Don’t just let them out and leave them. You want to praise them when you see them doing the right thing (treats work quite well in this situation!) Good luck!!

    Oh honey, my baby dog is a Shih Tzu, I love him dearly, I would never get rid of him but he can be the biggest pain in my ass as far as potty training goes. I finally had to put him on a routine and here it is;
    in the morning I let him out of bed and he goes strait to the dog bowl for food and drink

    after eating let him out side so he can go potty I have to watch him because he will not go unless I say GO POTTY then he will. He doesn’t like to go if it is raining or hot out side so I have to put him out.

    during the day if I have to be gone I put him in a create or pin him up in the bathroom. Other wise I watch him and if he starts walking around I make him go out side.

    At night I put him to bed with no food or water and in the morning we start all over again.

    I hope this helps If you have any other questions feel free to email me at because Shih Tzu’s have allot of skin problems too. Good luck.
