Poodle
Recycling Reina! asked:

My miniature male poodle, Ollie, is one year old. After serious consideraton, we have recently adopted Ollie’s brother from an elderly woman. So now we have Ollie and Danny Boy, who are brothers. Ollie is not neutered and Danny Boy is neutered. Ollie will not stop humping Danny Boy. Ollie is going nuts and is wild until he is left to hump Danny Boy. We love both of them and need a solution to the problem. Help!

Usually getting the other dog neutered will help that but there is no guarentee. Also, if that doesn’t help, don’t worry about it, you cannot end up with puppies, yes it is weird (extremely) but HEY! if it is not hurting either dog, let him do it. Talk to your vet too, see what he/she says!

You can get Ollie neutered, which may help. This is also a show of dominance and many dogs “play” this way, even females.

On Labour Day weekend, I took in an unneutered male who humped one of my other male dogs mercilessly ALL THE TIME. Three days later he was neutered, woke up from the anaesthetic, came home and started humping again. Gradually it slowed down and after 3 weeks, when the testosterone started leaving his system, the humping stopped. Magic.

Ollie is asserting his dominance, its his house. He is showing who is boss. You might try checking in on having him neutered,I have heard this calms them down. It takes his masculinity away.

  5. ?PomMom? Says:

Ollie should be neutered. It will help his humping behavior. You also need to divert his attention when he starts humping to break his habit.

I have three female spayed dogs. The oldest humps the two youngest. The middle dog humps the youngest. It’s a pecking order, alpha dog thing. The show of dominance and sometimes out of sheer pleasure, not of a sexual nature always. When we are taking our dogs for a ride in the car, they get sooo excited, it’s like a hump-a-rama in the backseat. It’s embarassing when your at a red light on a busy street. But it’s funny hearing hubby yellin,” No humpies!” too! ha.

why isn’t Ollie neutered? testosterone along with dominance is going to drive you nuts. first of all stop the humping by n intervening. make ollie stop and don’t let him approach danny. at all!!! get ollie neutered. and keep up the interfereance because testosterone is a gradual depletion. not automatic after neutering. it’s behavior modification as well as reducing ollies urges, which may take a while

  8. poodle mom Says:

get him neutered…its very common, that will stop it

  9. Princess Says:

when ever it does it spray it with a spray it with a spray bottle that normally helps
