I have a Mini Schnauzer (Binky). My children are teens and she tends to play rough with them. Discourage any aggressive playing (tough of war) and mouthing. Also, take out books on discipline. She has to learn now that she is Omega. I will tell you this though, when ever my nieces bring their babies over Binky sits and guards them. My great-nephew is very active and Binky just follows him around watching him. When my girls play hide and go seek with him Binky gets upset because she doesn't understand that they are playing with him. Don't give the dog a sedative teach him.

Check the crude protien levels in the food you feed her. If she is getting more then 20% protien then you need to find her a different food. Extra protien can make a dog hyper. Make sure you give her plenty of exercise per day and change the food if you have to, if these thing don't work then you need to consult your vet about options.

Is she getting enough exercise? I had a Mini Schnauzer once that was very high strung, always jumping and running and barking. We started walking him, twice a day for 20 minutes, and that helped to expel the energy pretty well. It's good for you too!! Good Luck and congrats on the new little one!

you need to exercise her more.

I don't suggest meds.
they are just a bandaid to the problem, not a viable solution.

Good for you for seeking alternatives to getting rid of the dog when you have a baby! I would consult with your vet about possible options for medication. You could also look for a trainer who specializes in dealing with high energy or "problem" dogs for some one on one sessions. Is she getting enough exercise? That can be a big factor in dogs acting "wild". If you don't have the time to exercise her enough yourselves, consider doggy day care or a dog walking service.

Good luck!

How old is she? Dogs tend to get mellow after a certain age but it all depends on the dog and the breed. I would not suggest any "downers" but rather more one-on-one training. Pick up Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer books and teach the pup that you are not only the alpha in the house but the baby is too.

Good luck and congrats on the new bundle of joy! :)
