Hey, wassup?

I heard that when they hear that, they think that, since dogs are pack animals, they try to jon in to the noise because they think it's other dogs howling.

its just a response that some vocal dogs like to do, some dogs have better hearing than others and some dogs are much more vocal.

Sit Stay Fetch, Good Dog!

'It is probably because it hurts their ears. A dog's hearing is many times more sensitive than a Human's.

Dog Food Secrets!

My first thought was about it hurting their ears, but the more I think of it and don't think that is it. I would say because they are answering the call. In the wild wolfs howl and other wolfs will answer if they are in range, most likely this what it is.

even though the distant siren is faint your cocker associates that sound with pain,as for why the lab is not affected, maybe that breeds hearing is not as sensitive to high frequency's

Dog Food Secrets!

Dogs hear at higher frequencies than we do and for that reason they hear things louder or from further away then we do .. for instance once he was used to the noise your car or family car made he could hear you almost a mile away ..
Sirens emit a loud piercing sound that also has some higher frequencies in it that we can't hear but your poor dog can and a theory is it hurts his ears
Some dogs are more sensitive to noise too just as some humans are more sensitive to things than others ...
another theory is that they that the sirens sound like certain parts of a dog howl and they react to that .. no one knows for sure but its a fact some dogs howl others just bark its there way of communicating different things to each other .. or to us but we don't speak dog ..
