I was reading signs of aggressiveness in dogs and these are the ones that apply to my own dog
* Excessive barking;
* A tendency to snarl, growl, or snap to protect food;
* Overprotectiveness of possessions;
* Fearfulness in new situations or around strangers;
* Frequent attempts to chase moving objects such as bicycles, skateboards, cars and trucks;
I hardly invite people over or take him anywhere because he gets out of hand so fast. He is a 7 year old pug. Is there anyway to socialize him or help with his aggression at this point? What can I do?
He doesn’t snap much over food, just once in awhile if he gets a hold of a chicken bone or something, usually I just yell at him and lightly smack his nose to get it from him.

think about taking your dog to obedience classes
and if they are not spayed/neuted it would be advisable to do that

I think that you need to take your Pug to a behaviorist. He/she can evaluate your Pug and guide you in the right direction.
Keep loving your Pug and give him lots of praise. Accentuate the positive things that he does with praise and treats.
Good Luck!

One cause of dog aggression is owners not asserting themselves as the pack leaders. After 7 years, you will most likely need professional help in order to change the behavior. Here is a site that might help:

You need to show the dog who’s boss. You should walk the dog frequently because its acting out may be that hes bored. When you walk the dog always walk in front of it, and let it know your the pack leader. There is a program called the Dog Whisper on National Geographic this will give you more professional tips. Hope this can help both you and the dog!

First of all, the fact that you rarely have people over or take your dog anywhere, is probably the root of all the issues. Your dog has not been socialized or conditioned to deal in a social environment. The fact that the dog is 7yrs old makes it a harder learning curve seeing that he is going to be pretty set in his ways but it can be fixed. It’s just going to take a lot of patience and consistancy, on your part. The dog has to be introduced to the idea that him being aggressive or anti-social is a bad thing. An easy excercise is to have someone come over, if ‘puggy’ is being aggressive, be sure to tell him ‘no’ and some sort of physical correction (choke chain, squirt bottle, etc) to let him know ‘hey, if you do this, then this happens’. Once he has come to terms with behaving when one person is around, you can move on to more people, or animals. You then take the same excercise outside, on a walk or at the dog park. Remember, this is going to take alot of work on your part, and if you are not dedicated to making this happen, then you might as well just let things be.
