Dog Food Secrets!

I agree with Cleoppa on this one. Labs are great swimmers and they can pull a good amount of weight but there are dogs that are better in both categories. Labs are bred for retrieving in cold weather(Nebraska) and cold water(Michigan lakes...jeez thats cold). They do counter not being the strongest with their temperment.

The ones you see that are fat haven't gotten enough exercise and stimulation, old, hip-dysplasia, or are arthritic.

Sit Stay Fetch, Good Dog!

Labs arnt very athletic. I have seen SO many pudgy labs it's not even funny. And when refering to srongest I say Bull mastiff! or alaskan malamute! not labs. A border collie or an aussie sheperd could beat a lab during agility in a blink. But labs are great swimmers!

Dove Cresswells Dog Training

Greyhounds are the fastest.

Heaviest dog was a Neapolitan Mastiff. This dog (named Zorba) weighed more than 315 pounds. Never heard of a Lab getting anywhere near that big.

Irish Wolfhounds and Great Danes are the tallest breeds. I'm not sure about the tallest individual.

I've never heard of any records on strong swimmers, but I'd vote for Newfs. Portuguese Water Dogs, Labs, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and maybe even Irish Water Spaniels would also be strong contenders.

In one test, Border Collies were judged to be the smartest breed. But there are other measures of dog intelligence. Different breeds were bred to think in different ways... ways that kept them alive and allowed them to do their job. Just because they didn't do as well on that test doesn't mean that they're unintelligent... just not the same kind of intelligence as Border Collies and other dogs.

Strongest... well, there's different measures of strength. An American Pit Bull Terrier or Alaskan Malamute could likely outpull a Lab in a weight-pull competition.
