I love Mine I have 3 also, There big babies lovable loyal caring sweet funny loves to snuggle and give kisses all day. But then again IF they go to good people there all like this but some don’t get so lucky to get into a nice home an safe environment as other breeds too.

great dogs. It is working class so you need to give them the proper exercise

Yiu are so right. The same can me said for Dobermans, and even pit bulls.
October 15th, 2007 at 5:16 am
The ones I have known have all been well raised and absolutely as soppy as any Lab/Retriever…just a lot bigger!
October 18th, 2007 at 6:47 am
I agree. I was bitten by a rottweiler last summer, and needed 6 stitches. The owner couldn’t have been more than 16 and obviously had no control over the dog. Incidently they are still one of my favourite breeds.

It’s more than likely dude that the problems of late with this ‘breed’ & the ‘staffies’ are due to ‘irresponsible ownership’, at least that’s how it appears!…..
October 20th, 2007 at 1:06 am
They are child killers…end of story.
(oh but I luv my rottie…staffie…etc, etc, etc)
…yawn….

I’m inclined to agree with you there, I had a Rottweiler a few years ago an he was a big softie.
If you raise them to bite people and be vicious they will be, as it happens Rocky was always coming to the pub with us so he got loads of attention.
Any breed can be vicious, its how you raise them that counts.

Agree 100%. I have two bitches and tey are both as soft as butter because they have been treated right.
Robert C: as long as your opinion is based on knowledge of the breed you moron.

Its not the dog its the owner and how the dog is brought up and environment its kept in….
I have an english bull terrier who is gentle as a lamb with my child and with one on the way I have no doubt he will be great with my baby too…
My family have had many very loving dogs of assorted breeds, german shepherd, rotties and dobies included.
My opinion on owners is that they need to know how to own a dog and how to treat it….the breed isnt important as long as its taught correctly

I have 1… He’s a pretty nice size … but I have an Akita & she’s bigger then he…..
Think it depends on the bloodlines aswell … German or American………… German Rotties are alot bigger then the American Rotties
How they are raised has alot to do with it aswell….. I got my 2nd Rottie from the SPCHA …. & he had kennel cough & was very thin…. But since I have had him… have been feeding him IAMS & hes picked all of his weight back up……..
I Love my dogs ( horses & ferret)

They are smart dogs and can have good temperments. They are not a dog for everyone because of their dominant personality and large size. I would only suggest this breed to an experienced dog owner that is willing to give the dog lots of love, good reinforcment and room to roam.

I’ve had one and it was honestly one of my favorite dogs. They are super sweet and very loyal. I’ve never known a dog to be so wanting to please as my Rotty. He wanted to be a lap dog who could just sit in your lap and lick you all day long, not realizing that he weighed more than a lot of people and that some may not appreciate him licking them to death.
But yeah, I agree 110%. The breed is a great breed and they make wonderful pets. Unfortunately, they are also very powerful animals who are often used for the wrong purpose and are given a bad name. Also, a lot of people will get them not knowing how to control them. The dog does not automatically understand that it is not acceptable for it to play with a person the same way it would play with another dog as they are very capable of hurting someone by accident. Therefore, it is the owner’s responsibility to work to convey this concept to the dog, but I think a lot of irresponsible owners don’t do this and wind up with a potentially dangerous dog that really means no harm.

i never had one of my own but my neighbor did and he would bring his down to my house and he would sit by my sons room and i did not need a monitor when he was there he would not bite hard but enough to say hey get up then when i would bottle feed him the dog would sit right by my feet i feel lucky to have had a great time with him he would visit us until he passed my son was 5 when he died i feel that if you treat them right they will treat you right as with any pet

a woman who lived near me had two and they are the most amazing dogs.. you could not stroke them when she walked them but as she told them to sit you could do almost anything to them but only while they sat down otherwise they were on guard of her. they need to have alot of exercise but they in my opinion are brill.. i had a staffy but he died but he was fantastic with children, its how you bring any dog up
edit: who is sad to put thumbs down just because someone has a different opinion,

I don’t think there is a problem with Rottweilers at all. They are big babies…
November 5th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
I agree completely with you. My Rott is the most docile and gentle dog you ever want to meet. There is a poodle up the hill from me that chases kids across a field everyday nipping at thier heels. My Ranger would never do something like that. Get this one. I am military and will have to move in the summer to a new post. Guess what I am not allowed to live on Post because rotts, pitts, wolf hybrids, chows and akitas are all banned from post. I will have to get my own house on the economy since I am unwilling to get rid of my big baby dog.
November 8th, 2007 at 9:07 am
Its 100 % down to how they are raised… most big dogs are gentle giants, we just love em x
November 11th, 2007 at 12:11 am
no problem with this breed, its normally the owners who dont train there dogs who are the problem,my son (who is now 27) was baby sat by my rotti and she adored him. i trusted her from the word go,though people will think im stupid in doing so, so breeders of this amazing breed, stop selling to people who just wants a status symble to look hard to there pals.
November 12th, 2007 at 12:40 pm
i have a rottie and 8 German shepherds and they are all fantastic big gentle giants its definitely the way there brought up
November 14th, 2007 at 10:16 am
What’s wrong with them? Like all dogs, their loveable things that vary in accordance to temperament and handling.
They’re in the news a lot because their large and not handled/trained properly.
I LOVE Dobermanns and thier floppy ears! Rottweilers are cool though, i have a t-shirt!

I totally agree with you 100% its is nothing to do with the dog if the dog is from a bad tempererd parents especially the stud the puppy will be bad tempered.its breeding but dont get me wrong there is some dahm good breeders out there that actually do it for a living and actually love the dog but on the other hand there is the breeders that dont have a clue and that are doing it for quick cash.
The first year in a dogs life is very important if the dog is brought up with love care and attention it will be a great dog but like a human if it is brought up in the wrong conditions(eg young folk that get them just to look kool and hard)they will bite attack and back fire it is all they know.
respect the dog and yopu will get respect back!!!
When a dobbie or a rottie or a staffie bite they always just kill the dog they never actually stop and think “was the dog being termented, hurt or felt unsafe or insecure” no they always side with the person.it should be owners that are prosecuted and put to sleep not the dog.
am sorry a just feel really strongly about this issue dogs now adays dont get the respect they deserve nor most animals on that hand

Before the recent bad press, I was scared of Rotties, however the only Rotties that I have know have been fantastic. I adore German Shepherds, my GSD loves other dogs, kids, cats and everyone. Nevertheless if a strange GSD ran towards me or my dog I would be petrified.
Regardless of their breed, I think that dogs who live in a caring home with nice mams and dads will never be a problem.
Nevertheless because I have always loved large dogs,I think that people who want to buy a large dog should prove that they are experienced dog owners. Rotties and GSD’s are often purchased as protection dogs and are chained outside without any love or care.
Thankfully your mum is a loving and caring owner. My GSD’s sleep in my bedroom, I do heelwork to music, agility and obedience. Rotties and GSD’s have a bad reputation simply because anyone is allowed to buy one. Hopefully in future they will not be sold to people who are inexperienced. This will ensure that they are loved and cared for.

Not just how they are raised, i do in actual fact think it is the breed not many people understand this type of breed as they have a natural guarding instinct which can develop as late as 2 years old, so Joe bloggs who has been popping round for the last 2 years suddenly is not made to feel so welcome, or the grandchildren that the dog has seen once or twice in his life time, he will always be guarding his owners and what he considers to be his home. i love this breed and i have three of my own and have had rottis for 25 years , i as a devoted lover of the breed do think for the sake of the breed that we should have some way of controlling who owns a dog like this. MIGHTY BUT MISUNDERSTOOD is a very good way of explaining a rottweiler.

We have a 4 yrs old, gentle giant but very clumsy. lived wih 2 chiwahaus until they died of old age recently, he misses them badly. Also only has 3 legs, he is very very loyal to me & my family and because of this I would not trust him 100% with anyone else but thats Rotties for you. If you know what they are like and know how to handle them they are one of the best breeds that there are.
November 22nd, 2007 at 12:07 pm
You are right, any dog is capable of being aggressive, its how they are trained and raised, I am fed up of our breed being picked on by the press as killer dogs, just recently in Leeds a stray rotty has been shot by armed police, this was an old dog, very thin and distressed and not realy showing any sign of aggression until people started to corner it and it was surounded by armed marksmen and shot, for doing what, trying to protect its self, thats the hype the press has instilled in peoples minds,
November 24th, 2007 at 4:36 am
i think they are lovely. i have never met a bad tempered rottie.
