You are right, any dog is capable of being aggressive, its how they are trained and raised, I am fed up of our breed being picked on by the press as killer dogs, just recently in Leeds a stray rotty has been shot by armed police, this was an old dog, very thin and distressed and not realy showing any sign of aggression until people started to corner it and it was surounded by armed marksmen and shot, for doing what, trying to protect its self, thats the hype the press has instilled in peoples minds,

We have a 4 yrs old, gentle giant but very clumsy. lived wih 2 chiwahaus until they died of old age recently, he misses them badly. Also only has 3 legs, he is very very loyal to me & my family and because of this I would not trust him 100% with anyone else but thats Rotties for you. If you know what they are like and know how to handle them they are one of the best breeds that there are.

Not just how they are raised, i do in actual fact think it is the breed not many people understand this type of breed as they have a natural guarding instinct which can develop as late as 2 years old, so Joe bloggs who has been popping round for the last 2 years suddenly is not made to feel so welcome, or the grandchildren that the dog has seen once or twice in his life time, he will always be guarding his owners and what he considers to be his home. i love this breed and i have three of my own and have had rottis for 25 years , i as a devoted lover of the breed do think for the sake of the breed that we should have some way of controlling who owns a dog like this. MIGHTY BUT MISUNDERSTOOD is a very good way of explaining a rottweiler.

Before the recent bad press, I was scared of Rotties, however the only Rotties that I have know have been fantastic. I adore German Shepherds, my GSD loves other dogs, kids, cats and everyone. Nevertheless if a strange GSD ran towards me or my dog I would be petrified.
Regardless of their breed, I think that dogs who live in a caring home with nice mams and dads will never be a problem.

Nevertheless because I have always loved large dogs,I think that people who want to buy a large dog should prove that they are experienced dog owners. Rotties and GSD's are often purchased as protection dogs and are chained outside without any love or care.

Thankfully your mum is a loving and caring owner. My GSD's sleep in my bedroom, I do heelwork to music, agility and obedience. Rotties and GSD's have a bad reputation simply because anyone is allowed to buy one. Hopefully in future they will not be sold to people who are inexperienced. This will ensure that they are loved and cared for.

I totally agree with you 100% its is nothing to do with the dog if the dog is from a bad tempererd parents especially the stud the puppy will be bad tempered.its breeding but dont get me wrong there is some dahm good breeders out there that actually do it for a living and actually love the dog but on the other hand there is the breeders that dont have a clue and that are doing it for quick cash.

The first year in a dogs life is very important if the dog is brought up with love care and attention it will be a great dog but like a human if it is brought up in the wrong conditions(eg young folk that get them just to look kool and hard)they will bite attack and back fire it is all they know.

respect the dog and yopu will get respect back!!!

When a dobbie or a rottie or a staffie bite they always just kill the dog they never actually stop and think "was the dog being termented, hurt or felt unsafe or insecure" no they always side with the person.it should be owners that are prosecuted and put to sleep not the dog.

am sorry a just feel really strongly about this issue dogs now adays dont get the respect they deserve nor most animals on that hand

What's wrong with them? Like all dogs, their loveable things that vary in accordance to temperament and handling.

They're in the news a lot because their large and not handled/trained properly.

I LOVE Dobermanns and thier floppy ears! Rottweilers are cool though, i have a t-shirt!
