You should install a kitty door to the basement and get some serious obedience help for the dog. In time they will get along together if you train the dog properly.

It is not fair to give up your car or put it to sleep. At 15 years old? How cruel. The cat is upset with you for good reason.

We had one dog that chased (not hurt) our cats, and we didn’t replace any cats until after the dog died.

But we sure didn’t put an “oldster” to sleep so we could have a new puppy!

let the dog and cat get used to eachother. when they fight spray them with water adnt ehy will sonn learn to get along. my frend’s Chihauhua bites her cat and she doesnt do anything and im scared he is going to hurt the cat! if u dont do anything it willl get worse.

Keep the cat! Just keep it in the basement. Many people get rid of pets and the shelters put millions of animals down to sleep.

Your cat will be glad to be rid of you and your dog.
Take him to the Humane Society or any cat Rescue organization.

FIRST,I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE COULD HAVE AN ANIMAL OF ANY KIND AND PUT IT TO SLEEP WHEN THE ANIMAL IS HEALTHY,I THINK ITS MESSING IN FLOOR BECAUSE ITS TRYING TO GET SOME TYPE OF ATTENTION FROM YOU.I WOULD PUT IT UP FOR ADOPTION,GIVE IT AWAY,OR ANYTHING BUT PUT IT TO SLEEP…IT WILL ADJUST TO A NEW HOME IF GIVEN THE CHANCE. I WOULD TAKE IT ,IM SURE THERE IS ALOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IT. IT SEEMS YOU HAVE YOUR MIND ALREADY MADE UP ABOUT NOT KEEPING IT ,JUST PLEASE DONT PUT IT TO SLEEP….

I feel so sorry for your cat! Why did you get a dog in the first place if you already had cats” could’nt you have tried borrowing a dog and evaluating the reactions of the cats. One of your cats died! You sicken me! Find a good loving home for your cat where she can finsh her life in dignity she probably wonders why you did this to her! Find a home!ASAP

It’s not impossible for a cat and a dog to get along. There are ways.
And if your really don’t want to make that effort than find a nice home for one of them. If you don’t think the cat can handle a move than find a nice home for the dog.

But I think your not trying hard enough..because you can have the dog and cat get along.

we had the same problem and we made a kitty door to the basement so the cat would have a dog free haven and we also blocked the upstairs so the dog could go up there either. this made life alot less stressful for the cat. also i doubt a 15 year old cat is trying to fight with a dog and its not impossible by any means to teach a dog not to chase a cat it just takes a lot of effort which you owe to your cat. theres no excuse to ditch one animal because you found a new one you like better.
