Paranormal Princess asked:

I live with my parents and my dad is talking about gettting a dog. We have 2 cats- one is almost 14 and the other one is 7 years old. Dad’s cat passed away in February of this year and he’s been talking about getting a dog ever since. Dad talks about getting a Lab or a border collie, but I don’t think either one of those dog breeds would be the most compatible with our 2 cats. Mom’s 7 year old cat is very territorial of the back porch and attacks any animal that comes on or near it and my 14 year old cat runs whenever an animal comes in the house. Mom’s alllergic to dog hair, so we can’t have a longhaired breed dog. What kind of dog gets along well with cats, because Dad’s starting to get serious about getting a dog?

My family is looking into getting either a golden retriever or a cocker spaniel. We have 2 cats, one is inside/outside, and a 21 month old son, and another on the way, due in september. Which one would be a better “family dog” and good with cats and young kids?

German Shepherd
J D asked:

I recently got a 4 month old german shepherd male. I also have a cocker spaniel female and 2 inside cats. Every time my shepherd sees or hears my dog or cat he barks loudly and tries to get to them. I don’t know if its even possible to get him trained to be friendly with him since he is kinda of old and hasn’t had animal contact.

I have two young children and would like to get a dog. We have two cats but I feel like it’s time for a dog. I don’t want a large dog but I don’t want one of those small old lady dogs either (I won’t be putting it in the shopping cart to go to the grocery). I would prefer short hair because I don’t want to be vacuuming up dog hair all the time.

Shih Tzu
Alison asked:

I have an almost 1 year old shih tzu and she has started attacking the two cats who are also almost a year old, these three have been in the same household since birth? I think she believes she is playing but they clearly do not like it. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with using methods to stop her from doing this. She also mounts them and humps them, which I know is a sign of dominance.
