In response to a question I read, I have to ask why the confusion? There so many people that call their Akita Japanese when it isn’t! The Japanese Akita and the Akita (American Akita/Great Japanese Dog) have been seperate breeds for years. The only countries in the world that still don’t recognize the Japanese Akita as a seperate breed is the US and Canada, so why all the confusion?!

Japanese Akita only come in red/white, pure white and brindle and must have urajiro markings. No breed standard allows Japanese Akita to be any other colour, pinto or have a black mask!

I don’t understand why so many people don’t know this, just read the breed standard! Here is the KC breed standard for Japanese Akita for example:

Check out this video comparing the two and see how different the true Japanese Akita is!

It’s like calling a Labrador a Golden Retiever, they look similar but are two seperate breeds!
The KC is the UK Kennel Club, and all the other Kennel Clubs around the world have the same standard besides the US and Canada.

How did I anwser my queston? I have no clue why people mix them up! I’d like to know! lol
That is true about dog breeds, but that’s what I have a problem with, people don’t do research and don’t know the breed of their own dog! Japanese and American have different temperaments so I think it’s pretty important that people stop confusing them, or people will be expecting something and get something else! lol
Yes! 100% agree about the Bernese. Another breed I love and it’s such a shame!
