My dachshund is 11 months old and still pooping in the house!! He very rarely has a urinating accident but we find poop at least 3 times a week in the house. We take him outside even when he isn’t at the door and if he doesn’t go to the bathroom outside during that trip then we keep after him every 1/2 hour or so until he does go outside. He is fed his dogfood in the evening but the kids do feed him “people” food too when they are eating/snacking. I also have found that he very rarely goes to the door on his own to let us know when he has to go outside. We usually just know that it’s been a few hours, so he needs to go out. He is very smart with other forms of training and tricks (sit, come, down, etc) but this one is baffling to me.
We have a house with about 1/3 acre of a backyard. Yard is not fenced so we have a leash w/corkscrew in the yard that we attach our dog to when he goes outside. We usually stay on the porch while he wanders the yard to find a spot to do his business.

I want to get a puppy and the labrador is my favorite because they are so smart and lovable. I can give it an active lifestyle but live in an urban setting and travel alot. If I could just shrink one down to about the size of a springer spaniel. Can anyone suggest a similar breed to consider? Woof.

Please tell me..I feel so angry when I read that a 5 month old baby has been mauled and killed by one of these dogs. What do you think and what should people who own one of these dog do to prevent these sort of things happening again? You cannot possibly blame the dog, the responsibilty must lie with the owners.
