How are cocker spaniel mixes with children?

We are getting a new dog after my 6 yr. old daughters dog, Buddy, was killed Feb. 28. She has experienced pretty serious depression, and I just think it’s time. We have been offered a 2 yr. old female spaniel mix who is spayed and professionally trained in a police program, for free. Any thoughts?

How to stop 1 year old Working Cocker spaniel from jumping up people?

He meets and greets everyone. He is really friendly but will continuously jump up most people. Some hate it (fair enough) while others encourage it. It is really hard to teach him with so many different signals from people. Help!!
