Just make sure the dog you apply to is not bathed two days prior or after the application (this goes for any topical flea treatment). You can purchase a flea shampoo to help get rid of and easy the itchy skin before applying the monthly product. Seem to work really well for us. Also if our dogs have fleas - Dawn is the best at killing them off. It's supposed to be better for fleas and ticks then revolution. I used to use revolution and never had any problems with that either. So you could give it another shot or go with the Advantage multi! If the spot is to 'gooey,' why not run it down your dog's back. I've never had that problem since this is what i do for both my dog and cats. Also, Revolution is used to help ear mites.
