:D asked:

We have a BIG backyard,
Were home most of the time,
We love to give love,
preferably a bigger sized dog,
but not like the giant dogs such
as a Saint Bernard,
But like a boxer,
I want it to be a sporty like dog,
Pictures would be a great help.
And experience!!!!
Thnx!

It sounds like you need a Labrador retriever :) They are very energetic loving dogs and love to play fetch. They do really good with children also. Hope this helps!

    Great question!

How much EXERCISE are you willing to provide on a DAILY basis?

Pit Bulls, and Staffordshire Terriers are athletic, loyal dogs that would love lots of attention.

    NOT outdoor dogs, though.

No one can make that decision for you. No one on the internet knows what your specific likes and dislikes as to what looks nice to you and how you want a dog to be so there is no way for anyone to really be capable of recommending anything. You could go down to the local shelter and visit dogs and see if one of them is what you want — there are millions in this country that die every year, not because they are not wonderful dogs but because people just don’t care to want them for silly reasons.

If you want a specific breed, then you can research the various breeds — find out what their shortcomings and assets are — all breeds have them as well as mixes. You need to find out about specific diseases/health issues that any breed/mix can have – love is great but it won’t cure a dog that is paralyzed or can’t metabolize their food — you need to figure out if you want a dog with a coat that needs frequent maintenance by you – daily brushing or every few days – regular professional grooming. Find out what certain breeds tend to be like temperament or personality-wise. There are MANY breeds even within your specifications but only you can decide and to be responsible, you need to be knowledgeable and caring about what it is that is right for you and your situation.

You don’t mention how active you want the dog to be, or what you’re looking for for grooming/shedding. If you want a sporty dog and have some patience, I would go with a larger bully breed. They are very loving and affectionate. They need a good bit of exercise, but tend to be very lazy in the house. Some females can be dominate, but most males (that I’ve known/heard about) are very laid back. There is nothing better than a well behaved pit bull or other bully breed to show how wrong some people are, and they are truely great dogs!
I meet a woman with the best behaved dog, a pit bull, and the woman couldn’t have been a day under 60! It was such an interesting match because the dog was a priss and the woman just adored her (I think it was mutual!).

Try using a breed selector quiz, like iams or dogbreedinfo.com

What about a Weimaraner? They are sporty dogs, they are in the sporting group and enjoy hunting. They are the most loveable dogs ever, they love to cuddle and are very affectionate. However, they tend to be needy and are called velcro dogs, they are attached to your hip. They cannot be kept outside they must be inside. They are intelligent and pretty quick learners.

Females range from 60-70lbs males are 70 – 80lbs. I got lucky mine is only 60 lbs and not that large. They are very active but they make excellent indoor dogs.

They are strong headed and will take over if you aren’t a strong pack leader. Mine will try to push the envelope sometimes and will definitely test me to see how much she can get away with, but most dogs are like that if you aren’t alpha dog. She is my first dog and I think she’s got the best personality and is a great dog. They are also very good with children, my niece dresses mine up in clothes and has no problems with it. She loves to play, catches frisbees, loves to play fetch and her favorite game is hide and go seek which goes with her hunting nature. I would highly recommend one.

    Good luck with your choice.

    Rhodesian Ridgeback
    rhondesian’s are anywhere from 65 – 90 pounds
    females are smaller
they love to run and play, so your backyard would be great for this breed
they would make a great guard dogs too
when brought up with children or when introduced with children they are great and gentle
    they hardly shed either
so no worries of hair flying around the house
they live to be around 12 years of age
they rank 52/80 or smartest dog breeds
but they are easy to train
55/179 of most popular breeds today

and good luck with your dog searching
    hope that helped!

Puggle!!! (pug and beagle mix)… medium size dogs, but VERY active. They love to play and run a lot. They love a lot of attention and love. I have one that is about a year and a half. If you have kids or want more than one dog they are good with both.
This website has more info on them and some pics!:
