My poor pug is going crazy. Not just from flea bites but because he has allergies & gets hives from them also. Besides the obvious Medicated shampoo’s and the Advantage or Frontline drops is there anything else? I need something that’ll work fast & I’m not near the store.

Sorry nothing. Go to the store. I have a beagle of my own and the medicines BARELY worked, and for only a short time.

You need to be prepared ahead of time for flea and tick season…especially since your animal is allergic and gets hives. I don’t know if there is any home remedy, but you need to get some Advantage or Frontline ASAP to get some relief for your poor dog.

Benadryl can help with the itching, but you’d have to call the vet for a dose, I don’t remember it off the top of my head. It may not be strong enough though if he is allergic. Keeping him on constant Frontline or Advantage is your best bet if he’s got a flea allergy, as these dogs can go bonkers for weeks from a single flea bite and often they need a short course of steroids to break the itching cycle. Steroids have a LOT of side effects but may be the only thing that gives him relief.

The best non-medicated non-chemical solution is a flea comb.
The flea comb is usually metal and had very fine teeth. Comb the dog and then prepare for flea-crushing fun.
This will gratly reduce the number of fleas. But you still must find another solution for the problem.
We use advantage for our animans because it also kills ear mites and worms.
    Good luck.

you need to bomb your house for fleas. even if you get
rid of them on your pug he will just get them again and you
will get them. you are passing them back and forth.
you also need to take the pug to a vet and have him
bathed in flea shampoo and when he is there bomb your
house and clean his bed and everything. your pug is
probably infected from the flea bits and needs antibiotics he can get really sick and maybe die. until you can get to
a vet, you might try giving him a bath with baby shampoo
i would tell you a stronger one but you said he has scores and
that would burn him. the bath would help a little but he really
    needs to see a vet.

I have just rescued a 13 year old dachshund who lived with an elderly couple. She was never, ever taken out or let out into the garden and lived in a super heated house. Her skin became dry and itchy. Now she itches when she goes out into the garden and comes into the house biting her paws, rubbing her chest and stomach on matting and carpets. I tried everything – vet recommended shampoo, hayfever remedies, E45 cream, witch hazel, oatmeal baths, homeopathic remedies – nothing seemed to work. Then I discovered a Baby Nappy rash cream and using that with medicated talcum powder is giving great results. I rub on the Nappy rash cream and then dry off the area with a dusting of talcum powder. For the last 3 weeks she has not been itching and thankfully her skin is not red and sore.
