eternal asked:

I have Labrador Retrievers who will even sneak up behind me, in order to shake water off of themselves, onto me, especially if I have good pants on…
After a long slobbery drink, I always thought that a drive-by licking was obligatory, just so can dry their wet jowls on our dry skin or clothes…

Perhaps they shake their wet mud or water on us, because we’re looking a bit warm, and a nice little shower just might cool us off?

I do not know it is a good question! When ever I bathe my dogs I want them to shake off in the tub but they will not until they get out and then they get me and the whole bathroom wet. Maybe it is their revenge

LOL! I have 4 labs myself. I think it’s payback for not giving them treats whenever they ask for them.

I also have a drive by licker. She gets a nice drink of water and then comes over and sloops her wet face and tongue all over your leg. She does it EVERY time she gets a drink!

I was wondering this myself. I just gave my pup a bath not even 20 minutes ago and she waited in the tub patiently until I went to get the towel down to dry her off and once out of the tub (which I had the curtain closed so she would shake off) she shook and got water everywhere. She just ran off happy as could be.

They do this for the same reason cats will claw your furniture right in front of you: To annoy the crap out of you and most importantly – To get your attention!!! They want to make sure that you notice them and yell at them and that means they know you are strongly aware of their existence.
I know this because my cats are clever and dogs are even cleverer!!!!!!
