My girlfriend has a 2 year old female dachshund. She always comes RUNNIN when you holler her name and shes all the time sleepin in the bed with my gf. Here the past couple days, she has been hidin under beds and in the closet and wont come out for nothing! Its like she sets around depressed all the time. Anyone have an idea?

Is she pregnant/false pregnant nesting? It sounds like nesting behavior.

Do you have earthquakes in your area? Or are you in for a bad storm? Or something in the house has scared her. I would have her check out by her owners vet.

Are you a new boyfriend? Perhaps the dog had a bad experience with a man in the past and is scared of you – or she is jealous of the attention you’re getting. If she doesn’t look physically sick and isn’t off her food, I’d just leave her be and see if she comes around. Otherwise, I’d take her to the vet in a week or so, just to be sure.

You leave out a lot of information. How long have you known your girlfriend? How long has she had the dog? If she has not had it long, how did she get it? If she is concerned about the dog’s behavior she should first take the dog to the vet to rule out possible illness/pregnancy. If the vet rules out all possible illnesses/pregnancies, then she might consider taking the dog to a dog obedience instructor. As far as the sleeping on the bed, most owners do allow their dogs on their beds. The RUNNING when it is called is normal. The dog got excited because you called it, and it wants attention!

She’s probably in heat.
