Are the pups chow or retrievers??
You should of started weaning them by now!! again another person who has no idea on what breeding involves, why bother??
You should know these simple things before you started breeding!! get the book of the bitch – read up research & NEVER breed again!!

First off. Never feed any dog puppy chow. Take a piece of the food and drop it into the water. In a matter of seconds, it will expand. This is what happens when your puppy eats it in there small tummies. The puppies tummy bloats out and then you have to flip the tummy. Very disgusting.
Puppies are still used to softer things. May I suggest that with any food you decide on, taking a few tsp. of water and putting it on the food and let it set for a few moments. Any expanding will happen outside there tummies and the food will be a bit more mushier. Remember they are babies, not adult dogs

Good question….Ignore the answers that abuse…..
They should be eating quality food already. make sure you feed them large breed puppy mix. Soak in water for about an hour then blend in blender until sloppy. make a few cups up.. they will only eat until they are full.
Make sure they start on dry quality food also. They need lots of different textures.
Anyone with no helpful info please leave this person alone they are trying to do their best!!!

Yup they are old enough to start on puppy mush!
Make 2 batches of this:
2 cups good quality dry puppy food place in blender
Chop up puppy food in a blender add warm water unitl it looks like runny oatmeal. Pour into shallow pan like a heavy pie pan. Make 2 batches of this for 9 pups.
Place down for pups to lap up!
Feed the pups this 3 to 4 times a day. Allow mom back in with pups to clean them up and for pups to nurse.
5 weeks old:
soak puppy food in warm water, increase to 2 1/2 cups for each pan. Break up with fork feed pups 3 to 4 times a day. Let mom back in to clean them up but you may need to help her out so have a warm wash cloth and towel ready. Also have clean cool water for them now all the time. I found drip bottles like they use for rabbits to be the best thing for this. I’d get 2 or 3 for 9 pups.
6 weeks old:
Soak some food & leave some crunchy and feed to pups 3 to 4 times a day. Increase to 3 cups for each pan. Make sure they have clean full water bottles all the time. If mom still want to nurse every now and then fine if she doesn’t dont force her.
7 & 8 weeks old:
Same as 6 weeks. By 7 weeks old they should be fully weaned and mom no longer needs to nurse pups.
My e-mail is open if you need more help!
Hope this helped!

We started feeding our puppies at 4 wks. They were also still on their mother until I knew they were eating well. Every litter is different. I started out with pedigree can puppy food 1 or 2 times a day for 3 days. Then I started mixing Pedigree dry puppy food with the can to get them used to the crunch in the food. As a puppy when they are weaned, they need plenty of fresh water at all times and need to be fed 3 times a day. Also you can get puppy formula to pour on the dry food to soften it up and I feel this is better than water.
