They have a program where dogs such as labrador retrievers are brought in so that the dogs can bond with the patients. So why can’t a pit bull be brought in? Pit bulls are wonderful dogs that couldn’t hurt a fly!!!!

Most people think of pit bulls as vicious dogs, hence the odd looks.
You’re right. They can be wonderful dogs, but they’ve gotten a bad rap.

Ok Jon…at the risk of sounding sarcastic…um, where have you been?!

Yes. Pits are wonderful, loving dogs (in general), but pits have been the source of media attention for several years. So, ya have to keep in mind that you and I might love a pit for the awesome creature he is, but the average person…well, they won’t quite get it. Get it?

-sigh- It’s sad. A lot of people have the wrong impression about this wonderful breed due to the stupid humans that neglect and abuse these dogs. If you really want to have some pit bulls come in, have the staff come and meet a dog or two that you personally have selected so they can see what wonderful dogs they are. ^.^

My neighbor has 2 pits, yeah they are ok with people so far. Except they are cat killers. The neighbor before them had a very loving blue nose who also became a cat killer. The cats do not go into the neighbors yard. The pits come into my yard after the cats and have even come into my doggy door after my cats. Lucky for me and my cats I was able to fend off the dogs.

They probably said it, because of their stereotype…which is sad. However, it is true that some breeds are better suited than others. Of course, they should mainly judge by the individual dog.

Because that would be a strange thing to do. There are aggessions problems with the breed. People report all the time that they never mistreated or trained their dogs wrong and then it tears a chunk out of their cheeks or face or worsse yet, attacks an elderly person or child. People just defend this dog to the death no matter what they do but people should recognize that there is a problem.

Well, just maybe a precious, sweet Pitt like my friend’s hubby had for 10 years, (that absolutely adored him), would be nice to take to meet patients, as long as it doesn’t suddenly do what his did. She jumped up in his face one night and grabbed him by his throat. If his wife had not been there to beat her off, she’d have slashed him to pieces. He wound up with only 87 stitches.
If she hadn’t been such a sweet dog, he might be dead.

There are plenty of stories about Pit Bulls used in hospice situations as therapy dogs (a great story in Bully Breed magazine this month actually).

Don’t worry about what anyone thinks…prove them wrong. Go through with the training and practice and put this dog to work. We need more outstanding pittie citizens in the news these days!
