Divine Lack of Sophistication asked:
I have atwo year old Golden retriever named Bailey. He’s a lovely dog and he has pedigree papers I worked for the lady I bought him off and know for a fact he is pedigree. But he has a white stripe down the middle of his face, much like a border collie, it stops just at the top of his head but goes all the way to his chin. has anyone heard of this before.?
The breeder is a breeder of show dogs and has never had a pup like this before. Both the parents were hip and elbow xrayed

It’s probably just a marking, I wouldn’t worry about it.

White coloring on a golden retriever is considered a serious fault. Your dog, as a show quality dog, was poorly bred. Just because he has a fault does not mean he won’t make a great pet, just not a champion show dog.

Don’t worry your golden retriever will be fine. Your dog isn’t the only golden retriever in the world with a white strip. =)

Goldens don’t have markings. They have shading thru their coat, but they don’t have white stripes down the middle of their face.

The color of a Golden Retriever come in various golden shades. The fur of the face and body may gray or whiten with age. Golden Retrievers sometimes have white markings on their chest.
Some Golden Retrievers have lighter or darker marking. This does not make them less of a pure breed. It just means that they are not real good for showing at the top dog shows.
Bailey sounds like he is more of pet quality than show dog.
Good luck with you sweet baby. May you have many years of fun and joy.

just because the parents had Papers (which cost about 20 dollars and are based solely on the honor system) does NOT mean your dog was bred by a reputable person.. this is a serious fault according the breed standard,, i am sure your pet dog will be a good pet ..but the breeder is a BACKYARD breeder who knows nothing about breeding and should be discouraged from future breedings.. also,, did she have both parents hips exrayed, eyes cleared etc. etc..
to educate yourself,, go to HONOR GOLDEN RETRIEVERS on the web.. they are a very reputable breeder…
