They are sweet little dogs & very affectionate. They’re eager to learn & love to be with people. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to be sure to have him groomed on a regular basis. Watch the skin condition, it tends to be dry, the back knees sometimes need repair & their canine teeth may have to be taken out as the puppy ones my not come out on their own. I’ve always liked the breed & wanted one but I always take in another stray that needs help. I currently have one that’s a yorkie mix so that’s how I’ve learned about this special breed.

I actually have one, we have had him for 7 years so far. He has turned out to be the best dog that we have ever owned. There are a few things that I might warn you of though, they have skin allergies and this can result in hair lose or excessive biting, they also began to have seizures in their old age, and they are really spastic over things. Even though they carry a risk of these things, I would say that you still should get one.

I think they are the most lovable & most adorable dogs ever!
I couldn’t live without my sweet little Lexi!

I don’t like them.
Too “girly”.
Too high maintenance.
Temperament is horrible.
Too small.
Too much grooming.
The one thing I like about the Yorkie is the eyes. The beautiful, deep brown/black coloring is so cute.
Big dogs rule my heart! With the occasional small one.

That’s simple…….The Yorkie is a fine breed. Most humorous dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning.

Yorkies are great pets, but they are not right for every lifestyle. If you are wanting to learn more, join yorkietalk.com, its a great place to get yorkie owners’ perspectives. You would definitely be more than welcome there if you’re curious about the breed!
Beyond that, all I have to say is that they are NOT:
Too “girly.” (Many men have yorkies, and they are a spunky breed, bred for hunting.)
Too high maintenance. (If you take proper care of them, maitenence is affordable and manageable.)
Temperament is horrible. (Says who? I have never met anyone that dislikes my yorkie’s temperment…and we meet a lot of new people.)
Too small. (Thats a matter of opinion, but I don’t think you’d be asking if the size didn’t appeal to you.)
Too much grooming. (I brush my yorkie’s hair for about 5 minutes three times a week, and we have never had problems with mats or tangles. Is that so excessive?)
